'Water Scare-city' RHS Tatton Flower Show Blooming Border Competition

January 2019

My accepted entry to RHS Tatton Flower Show 2019.

The theme for 2019 was 'Hot Topics'.

Climate change is causing more extreme weather in the UK, with 2018 being the hottest summer on record. Water 'Scare-city' is a dry garden border that showcases some of the best plants that will thrive in dry landscapes. It celebrates their resilience, as well as their beauty and flowering interest.

Scare-city story: the border starts as a lush Mediterranean gravel garden with a walkway that suggests a dried up river bed. As we move along the river towards the city the planting becomes sparse, communicating a dry landscape with a lack of water to feed it. As we reach the barren city the planting is all but dried up and in its place a harsh urban skyline.
